Dr’s Engel, Dana and Maya Welcome You to Our new Blog

We want to welcome you to our blog, a new way we will use to communicate with you, or patients, and anyone else you wish to share this with.

In order to be more green and environmental friendly we will no longer be sending out printed newsletters.  The blog will save many trees and give us a very economical way to share dental news with our patients.  Hopefully, you will see more green in our office in the months to come.

The start of the year has been very busy for us.  First, we changed our office name to Southern California Dental Health Associates. What it means for you is more co-ordinated effort by our team to provide a wider breath of services to our patients.  We will also be introducing some innovative programs designed to help you maximize your dental health while hopefully minimizing your long term costs.

The second, and even bigger change for us is that we finally moved into our new state of the art West LA Dental Office on February 1st.  Remember, the new location is  at 5901 W. Olympic Blvd., Suite 205, Los Angeles, 90036.  You can reach us at either 310-659-5003 or at our new 323-934-3341  number. We are up and running at full speed and everyone in the office is sure you will appreciate the way the office is better suited to treat your dental needs and get you in and out as efficiently as possible.

We will use this blog to help keep you current with the ever changing sciences of dental health care.  You can also email us at [email protected] if there is a dental topic you would like us to cover.

Lastly, we appreciate all the continued support we have received from all of you over the years.  We just want to remind you that we are taking new patients and have expanded hours to help everyone that we can.

BRUSHING FOR TWO

If you are thinking of becoming pregnant, or already are, you should know that your gums will react differently to plaque and tarter because of the change of hormones, particularly estrogen and progesterone.  Research continually is showing that oral health and overall health coincide, so the better your home care, the better yourhealth during the pregnancy.

Untreated gingivitis (the first stage of inflammed and bleeding gums) can lead to destructive gum disease, periodontitis.  Periodontitis is the more serious form of gum disease and it can lead to the breakdown of your gum tissues and lead to bone loss around the roots of your teeth.  Not taking care of your teeth and gums during pregnancy can lead to a common condition called pregnancy gingivitis.  Lastly, bacteria in your mouth can enter the bloodstream through your inflamed gums and travel all over including the uterus, where the bacteria can trigger the production of prostaglandins.  Prostaglandins are suspected in causing premature labor, which in turn might be the suggested link between pre-term delivery, low weight babies and gum disease.

What can you do to help during pregnancy.  First, brush and floss daily at home.  Second, you might want to consider getting your teeth cleaned professionally more fequently.  Lastly, make sure you take plenty of Vitamin C and B12.

Southern California Dental Health Associates can help you through your gum problems during pregnancy.  If you have any questions about what you should do when you are pregnant about your dental health you can call us at the office and we will be happy to get you the answers you need.
