Bubby Ain’t Half the Man He Used To Be

First, I have a retraction to make from last week’s blog..it was Albert Hammond that sang It Never Rains in Southern California not the Mamas and the Papas…thanks to Rich Madow for setting me straight.

I have to tip my hat to a young man nicknamed Bubby. Bubby is a very good friend and mentor to my son, Josh. I had the opportunity to watch the two of them at the NAMM (music show) at the Anaheim Convention Center this weekend. What a thrill it was for me.

Bubby is about 25 years old and is one of the finest bass players around. Started all his playing in his church and now is at the top of the world. He is Snoop Dogg’s bass player among his many jobs. It is simply amazing to see how at the biggest music convention in the USA all these people would come up to Bubby to talk to him and he had time for all of them. An incredible gentleman and someone I feel blessed to have told me that Josh is his brother and meant it.

Now, why do I say he Ain’t half the man he used to be. The first time I met Bubby was several years ago at the NAMM show and he weighed in at about 380 pounds. Fast forward to today and his weight is only 180 pounds. Do the math…he lost about 200 pounds and looks great. I heard people tell him that they did not recognize him and how great he looked. I asked his wife what his reason was for losing the weight and she told me he was in Europe on a tour and just felt his heart start to race when he bent over to tie his shoe. I give all the credit in to the world to Bubby, he took care of his health business. Bubby, you are the man.

Week three of the New Year and how is it treating you. All the bowl games are over and now it is time for the NFL play-offs. One game still going today and that is New England and New York…I hope the Jets win…love the upsets and love US players doing well in the NFL.

More importantly are you still working on your resolutions and health? I am still trying to keep the people around me happier. I hope I am succeeding, it certainly feels that way. What I am enjoying most right now is the change in how I am riding my exercise bike. Last week I posted that I was going to be doing the high interval training program instead of the slow indurance training. I have just completed my second week of doing that and several things have happened. One, I don’t spend as much time on the bike ( as little as 20 minutes a day now) and when I finish the program, while I might not be sweating as much as when I did the one hour workout, but I am really tired. And today I pushed my heart rate to the highest it has measured on the bike, about 150 beats per minute. Still in the infancy of this new workout regime but so far I am loving it.

Till next week
