Yesterday just proved to me that sometimes you get lucky.
Here is the scoop, I wanted to take my wife out on a date. And I decided to take a chance on a restaurant that we have never been to in an area that I have never been to along the Zuma/Malibu coast. Went on a couple of websites and made the reservation.
We start middle of the day on our drive out. Of course since we are already out in the area we have to stop at the outlet center. Hey, you gotta take advantage of your surroundings. I will call this a slam dunk day at the outlet center. Something for each of the boys, something for me and something for my wife. (OK we had to go back on the way home to get the jeans for Josh since he wasn’t available by phone when we were first there and discovered the outlet centers are really empty at 7:00pm)
We then took a quick drive to the coast through some farm lands and wow, were we in awe of the beauty of the coastline. I haven’t driven this part of the Pacific Coast Highway in I don’t know how long. It took about 4 miles before we could find a place to park and just sit on the rocks for a little while. Then off to dinner.
The restaurant that I chose was called Sunset and it just south of Zuma Beach. We pulled off of the Pacific Coast Highway onto a small street and I couldn’t believe that I have never been to this tiny little beach area. I might be ruining it for the locals…but this was just a small beach with free parking (if you get there early enough We pulled up to the place and there was going to be a wedding on the beach….and our window seats gave us a perfect view of it.
Dinner was excellent and just as we finished and the sun set the ceremony started. Now, did I tell you that it was 90 degrees at the beach? This is unheard of even when it is 90 degrees in the city the beach is usually 5-10 degrees cooler. This is October 5th mind you. And by the time the sun sets the weather is probably the most perfect you could have asked for..
I don’t know how I got so lucky to spend such a glorious day in the sun with my wife, see a wedding and the jeans were still there when we went back to the outlet center for my son. As the late Robert Palmer once sang “Some guys have all the Luck” Yesterday I felt it.
