Don’t Put It Off…I am Proof today

It has already started in our office, full force holiday spirit.  If you were to come in Maria and Natasha have outdone themselves this year with beautiful holiday decorations at Southern California Dental Health Associates.  There are so many ways people share the holiday spirit, including parties, family get togethers and of course all the little goodies that get passed around.

If you are anything like me, we tend to wait until after the holidays to start on our New Years resolutions.  This blog is to tell you that this year I started a little earlier and guess what…it has made a tremendous different in how I feel already.

About a year and a half ago I had an emergency appendectomy.  Prior to it I had been exercising pretty regularly (a lot of times at night time on the weekdays) and I credit being pretty healthy with being able to heal so quickly from the surgery.  But something happened in my own brain and I stopped working out regularly.  I had more going on in the evening and kept making excuses for why I couldn’t work out.  And sometimes I wouldn’t watch what I ate as much.

A funny thing happened last weekend.  I decided that I would start working out again and I made a commitment to do so in the morning.  Now I realize it is just a little over a week but let me share with you how I feel today.

First, a tremendous amount of accomplishment for doing something that I had made excuses about.  And you know that when you work out you get these little byproducts called endorphins.  These endorphins interact with the receptors in your brain that reduce your perception of pain and they also trigger a positive feeling in the body, similar to that of morphine.  Yes I feel better.

But I have noticed another key positive aspect to the working out.  I seem to have more focus now and remember what I need to get done better (and that is saying a lot since I am about to turn 60 in a few months)  And to top it off, I don’t feel like snacking and eating all the little sweets that come into the office or are all around during the holiday season.

Now it might just be how body is reacting, but I got a funny feeling that this would work for you also.  So, why do we always say I will start after the holidays when we can start it now? And we all know staying healthy is the best way to be.

Happy Holidays to you all from all of us at Southern California Dental Health Associates.
