Mouth Matters

I have to admit it, I didn’t come up with this headline.  It is the title of a book I have been reading by Carol Vander Stoep, RDH, BSDH.  The cover of the book says it all, Healthy Mouth Healthy Body.  How your mouth ages your body and what you can do about it.  This book is written for consumers, however, Carol has put all the science in it that incorporates so many areas that it is an incredible read for me as well.

This book is going to be a great source for a lot of my blogs and I want to give Carol all the credit.  As I read the book I will get all sorts of ideas of where to go with my blog.

I think one of the most interesting parts of the book has been where she discussed who should read this book.  Some of her key points here are that anyone who suffers from any type of inflammatory disease (they include but are not limited to heart disease, allergies, Alzheimer’s lupus of Crohn’s disease to name a few) should read this book.   And then the approximately 850,000 Americans who go to ER’s with life threatening dental abscesses.  She even writes that those who think that they don’t need professional done hygiene visits should be reading this book.

However, my favorite point of all is she discusses briefly dental tourism, people leaving the country for less expensive care.  She wants patients to have a close relationship with their dentist and this is the core of our existence at Southern California Dental Health Care Associates.  We are in the relationship business, we believe that dental health care is a partnership between our patients, our hygienists and our doctors.  And as a team we are committed to your overall body health not just your mouths, we just know that the healthier your mouth is the better off your entire body will be.
