I may be old but……….

Kaaboo 2018 was the second time that I have had the opportunity to go to this multi-cultural music/comedy/food/art event.  It takes place at the Del Mar race track just north of San Diego and covers 3 days

The first time was two years ago when my younger brother Dan got married and there was all sorts of family there.   This year it was just Dan and his wife Robin, their friend Karen along with Nadine (my wife) and me.  It was just a great time to hang out and get to know one another even better.

Funny, the first day there I got more compliments on my t-shirt than anything we saw.  It was a simple t-shirt; all it says it “I may be old but I got to see all the cool bands”.  But at Kaaboo this year I saw a band that has been around for 50 years, the Zombies, for the first time ever and they put on a really good set.  Blondie was there, I haven’t seen them in about 20 years but I will tell you that Deborah Harry looks great for 73 years old.  I had never seen Melissa Etheredge before and I have to admit she plays a pretty nasty guitar and put on a really powerful performance.  The Wailers are always like a religious performance for me because there is Bob Marley and everyone else in reggae and they did justice to his music. We caught a little of Billy Idol before Earth, Wind and Fire put on a knock out show.  Tower of Power was, as always just a solid horns section with a great band surrounding them and the English Beat were good old ska and fun.

Those of you who have been to our dental office at Southern California Dental Health Associates know that I love my music and it really is a foundation of who I am.  But the most important part of the weekend was watching my brother Dan at the opening game of the Miracle League of San Diego, a charity he founded several years back. It was amazing to see all the kids with needs participating, including someone in his first game ever who called his shot and hit a homerun at his first at bat (just like the Babe did years ago).  So proud of my brother and what he has established..giving back to the community.  Hey, look at the photo’s it looks like Roland crashed the Miracle League of San Diego,  see his pictures with the Padre’ players and cheerleader along with some of the athletes.  Roland is everywhere.
