I am sure that you know that the entire team at Southern California Dental Health Associates is committed to giving back to the community. We participate in several national charity drives, like the Halloween Candy Buyback and the Crown Council’s Smile for Life Whitening Program.
This year the Smiles for Life Campaign gave us some ideas of how we could celebrate different milestones during the several months that it is going on for. Somehow, in a moment of weakness, I declared to the team that if we reached our goal of $10,000 I would shave my head. My local charity that Smiles for Life supports is the Hollywood YMCA’s after school programs for the kids at elementary schools that don’t have physical education anymore.
Unfortunately we did not reach our goal, we were about 44000 shy of it. Now the ladies up front thought I should at least get a Mohawk since we reached ½ of our goal. It just not a look that I was interested in having.
Flash back to about 4 weeks ago on a Monday morning. I was working on my patient when I was interrupted by James Cordon from the Late Late Show. He introduced himself and his guest Demi Lovato and they wanted to sign me a telegram. It was part of a new segment for the show and somehow they had contacted by office to see if anyone there deserved a singing telegram the week before. After talking to team members after I had left the office on Friday they decided to honor me for raising money for the YMCA. And I had no clue.
So here I have cameras in my office, an entire filming crew and I have no idea at all what was going on. They sign me this telegram and then James asked me if he put in $4000 to the YMCA would I let Demi Lovato shave my head.
Here is a link to the video of the part of the show that I am on. My part starts at about 6:25 of the clip.
Some how my singing telegram was also on ET and several news broadcasts as well. The shaving of my head..that was only on the Late Late Show.
Why they called my office is still a mystery to me. Maybe Gina and Maria wanted my hair shaven so much that their collective energy had the producers of the show call our office. I don’t know…but I would do it again in a heart beat. Hey Roland, you going to join me next time?
