This is going to be a short blog, just an opportunity for me to vent about the lovely present I got from my insurance company, Blue Cross, for turning 55 next week.
I got my quarterly insurance premium and said to myself why did it go up so much? I already had a 20% increase at the start of the calendar year but it went up almost 600 a month or a whopping 37% increase. And I found out it was because I am having a milestone birthday for them, turning 55.
Do you think they care that my weight is lighter than when I graduated college, or that I exercise 5-6 times a week, don’t smoke, eat pretty damn healthy. I have even taken steps to work on reducing the stress in my life.
But does the insurance company care that I actually do everything I can possibly do to insure that I will use them as little as possible. Nope, not at all, and it probably won’t happen for the small employer who can’t ever negotiate for group insurance.
So, anyone who thinks that insurance is going to be affordable under the new laws to come…no way. But it isn’t the doctor’s fault as many think. I go back to what I have always said…personal responsibility. At least I know that I am doing my job to stay healthy…are you?
