Root Canal

WHAT IS ROOT CANAL THERAPY?

A root canal, or root canal therapy, is an endodontic procedure that cleans out infected teeth and preserves their remaining tooth structure. The center of each tooth contains a pulp chamber with living connective tissue. Nerves travel to this pulp chamber using tiny passages in your tooth roots, called “canals.” If your pulp chamber becomes infected, the infection can spread to the nerves in these canals and cause a serious toothache. When this happens, we can save your tooth and prevent more serious oral health problems by performing a root canal.

THE BENEFITS OF ROOT CANALS

  • Prevention — Root canal therapy prevents a tooth infection from spreading to other teeth, and prevents further damage done to your original tooth structure. Tooth infections can cause serious health problems, and have a negative impact on your overall health if left untreated. Root canal therapy prevents health problems and keeps your smile healthy.
  • Protection — A root canal uses a porcelain crown to seal off your remaining tooth structure and prevent further damage or another infection. We can protect your smile and keep your jaw healthy and strong by performing a root canal after a tooth has become infected. With root canal therapy, we can save teeth that would normally have to be extracted.
  • Relief — Patients who need a root canal often experience a severe chronic toothache when the infection spreads to the nerves in their teeth. Root canal therapy provides relief to those patients, and comfort. After a root canal procedure, you will be able to enjoy day-to-day activities again.

THE ROOT CANAL PROCEDURE

During a root canal procedure, your dentist will remove any infected tissue and clean out your tooth infection. Once the infected tissue has been removed, and the root canal procedure is complete, a porcelain crown will be placed to protect your remaining tooth structure. Root canal therapy allows us to save and restore your smile, even after a serious infection.
