Welcome back my friend to the show that never ends

It has been a while since I have blogged and I miss the opportunity to actually sit down and share about something.

The last few weeks I have taken some personal time and I have been to a camping retreat on Catalina as well as a meeting up in the Santa Barbara Mountains. These weekends have been about personal growth and between you and me, I think they are actually working and helping me.

This past weekend in Los Angeles I had the opportunity to go to the Los Angeles County Museum of the Arts (LACMA) and tour the Stanley Kubrick exhibit.

First off, it is down very well and there are rooms dedicated to his individual movies. The amount of research he did for his movies was incredible. There are numerous cubbies where film clips are played for most of the movies.

The rooms for 2001 A Space Odyssey were particularly interesting to me. The special effects were all visionary and the cost to make this movie must have been enormous. He had a giant centrifuge built by an aerospace company in England.

Perhaps the room for the Shining was the best for me because of all of his films this is the one I remember the most. Jack Nicholson scarred the you know what out of me. The entire idea of the movie was that the paranormal was entirely normal and Jack had nothing better to do than indulge the paranormal.

There were rooms of just the research he did for movies. He was planning on doing a movie on Napoleon and he had a library of biographies and history books that was amazing. Kubrick was a man that took his craft very seriously.

I left the exhibit thinking that all I wanted to do was watch all of his movies again, with a new understanding of how much ground he covered and broke in the history of film making.

This exhibit will be closing at the end of June, so don’t miss it.
