Not everything that happens in Las Vegas has to stay in Las Vegas. The hygiene team at Southern California Dental Health Associates took a quick trip to the desert city to learn a little bit more how we can help our patients get or stay healthy.
Friday morning, 7:15 am and Maria, Wendy and Diane pile into my car for the drive out to Las Vegas. The women had plenty to talk about, sharing pictures of their kids and just gabbing away while I drove. It was a very nice drive and our destination was the PerioProtect annual meeting at the Green Valley Ranch in Henderson.
The afternoon lecture was about the PerioProtect and how it can be used in our dental office to help our patients control the biofilm that is associated with gum disease. PerioProtect uses their FDA cleared patented tray delivery system to deliver a gel into the pockets of gum disease. The research and the case studies shows that bleeding and pocket depths can be reduced and patients using the system can reduce inflammation and promote gum healing.
The second part of the presentation was from Dr. Bradly Bale and Amy Doneen, founders of the Bale/Doneen Method, LLC. These two incredibly motivated health care providers run medical offices as well as train other health care providers in their method of reducing/eliminating risks for heart attack, stroke and diabetes. The talk was very pointed. They can’t lower their patient’s risks of vascular disease or diabetes without the help of the dentist. According to the American Heart Association gum disease has been the highest ranking possible (Level A evidence) as having an independent association with arterial disease. And the easiest way for me to break it down to you is that why the biofilm initiate’s gum disease; it is our own immune system that creates all the damage trying to fight this biofilm. And chronic inflammation is just very unhealthy for the human body. What was really great about the 8 hours of seminar was that as a team, we were all there and we are all on the same page. The women were so enthusiastic about what they learned and are ready to share it with all of our patients. We, as a team, love the fact that PerioProtect is a noninvasive and non-surgical tool that can help our patients not only have healthier gums, but we know it improves your overall health and ability to deal with whatever else Mother Nature throws at our patients.
